Care through Disaster: a new lens to survive and thrive in tumultuous times

Disasters are getting worse. Our communities can get better.

New research by Australia reMADE, in partnership with Women’s Health Goulburn North East, shows that one of the best ways we can collectively prepare for climate disasters is to build the kind of communities that are truly great places to live all year round. Want to know how?

Stay tuned for the upcoming recording and transcript of our launch event: featuring Amanda Kelly (CEO, WHGNE), Dr Millie Rooney (Co-Director, Australia reMADE) and Rachel Hay (Research and Projects Officer, Australia reMADE) — it was a fascinating and energising conversation about what it truly means for our communities to be supported to care for each other in good times and in hard times.

Through the hours of qualitative research and analysis, we’ve distilled the top three things people need to be cared for through disaster. Now we’re offering these lessons and insights for decision makers, disaster response organisations, campaigners and interested community members – to learn about the solutions to push for, and the steps we can take to set ourselves up to survive and thrive through tumultuous times.

As we brace for a long hot summer this El Niño season, we need a new approach to disaster management that sees care and connection as essential infrastructure.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for a lively, human discussion exploring how we can treat disasters with CARE.
