Bonus Summer Series: CONNECTION
Welcome to the second instalment in our Bonus Summer Series — a deep dive into CONNECTION.
It’s a conversation about radical love and the peace we gain when we are still, vulnerable and connected to place — accepting Country as a place of care and love that loves us back. It’s about the gender implications of connection as real actual work. It’s about connection across difference, and welcoming connection inside the mess and complexity. It’s about being gentle on ourselves as we try to find and focus on our patch of the world to change.
In the second half of 2022, Australia reMADE and Women’s Health Goulburn North East hosted a series of live panel discussions based around the three Cs from our public good work — Care, Connection and Contribution.
Featuring Millie and three expert panelists:
Dr. Emma Lee is a trawlwulwuy woman of tebrakunna country, north-east Tasmania, Australia. She is an Associate Professor (Indigenous Leadership) Swinburne University of Technology. Her research fields over the last 25 years have focused on Indigenous affairs in land and sea management, policy and governance of Australian regulatory environments. She’s also the author of articles like, “We 'love-bombed' the Tasmanian government to win Indigenous rights”.
Jasper Peach, a trans, non-binary and disabled writer, speaker and editor from Jaara Country; Castlemaine, Victoria. They are passionate about equitable access and inclusion, focused around the dismantling of misplaced shame via storytelling. Their first book, “You’ll Be A Wonderful Parent” is a collection of advice and encouragement for new and prospective queer parents, and will be released in March 2023 by Hardie Grant.
Amanda Kelly (she/her), the CEO of Women’s Health Goulburn North East has spent the majority of her working life in the not-for-profit sector. She has always sought to find the connections between the ways we live, work and are in the world. Her current role allows her to focus on the long-term, systemic changes that we need to consider if we want to create a life that is full of meaning for all of us.
It might make you want to sit under tree in the rain for a while. Happy listening.
