Season 3, Ep 1: reMAKING Economics 101
It’s the economics course you’d actually like to take, and today’s guests hope the best universities in the world copy their approach and put them out of business. In the meantime, they’re educating a new generation of leaders to remake economics from the inside out, and you’re invited to apply.
Join us for a provocative discussion about an economics fit for the 21st century, with guests Steven Hail and Gabrielle Bond. They explain why they quit their jobs to create Australia’s first Master of Economics of Sustainability degree, what they’d like to see our government doing differently, and where to from here if we want to solve the crises of climate change, rising inequality, cost of living and more.
Steven Hail is adjunct Associate Professor at Torrens University and Research Scholar at the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity. Gabrielle Bond is a climate activist and organiser, CEO of the charity Modern Money Lab, member of Extinction Rebellion and a co-founder of the Sustainable Prosperity Action Group. This conversation offers a revealing glimpse behind the curtain of economics and power, and a generational transformation we need to accelerate.
This episode of the reMAKERS was recorded in Gubbi Gubbi Country on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, as well as the lands of the Kaurna people in Adelaide, South Australia. We honour Traditional Owners of these lands and waters, and pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
